Week 28

What a week! A big thank you to the kids for working so hard on the STAAR tests and all of the reviewing leading up to this week. We still have so much to accomplish this year, but I enjoyed relaxing a little and indulging in our conversations and read aloud book together! I also want to thank the kids for their patience and understanding with the field trip mishap. We talked about how accidents happen, and although we were disappointed on Friday, we can accept the situation and look forward to a makeup day at the food bank.

Reminders:
  • We are back to work on our exhibition projects! On Friday we discussed the required components going forward: research paper, tri fold presentation board (prezi/powerpoint optional), artform, and prepared speech for presenting. Next week we will continue our papers and explore various artforms that they may choose from. By the end of the week, the groups should develop a plan for their art, including materials needed so that they may be gathered and brought to school to begin working the following week.
  • Progress Reports go home on Tuesday
  • If you have not had a chance to register for your (free) yearbook on Treering, please do so! Also, don’t forget that as fifth graders, you have the option to design 2 of your own pages from home as Ms. Punch explained (free)!
Math: We will learning how to convert a decimal or fraction into a percentage this week. Math Antics - What are Percentages? In addition, our problem of the day, exit ticket, and Friday quiz is back this week.

Reading: We will start our FINAL book club of fifth grade. I will assign books and jobs towards the end of the week. We will also continue “Forge” and examine plot as well as author’s craft. Spelling and Quizlet on Friday.

Science: This week we are focusing on life cycles of plants and animals. We will also learn about complete and incomplete metamorphosis. Check out these review videos on Study Jams. Go to the “Plants” tab and click on “Roots & Stems,” “Flowers,” and “Plants with Seeds.” Under the Animals tab, watch “Animal Life Cycles.” On Monday, 4/23, we will have our biology unit test. The best place to study for this is in your science journal!

Social Studies: This week we are continuing to learn about the Civil War and Reconstruction. There will be a quiz on Friday over these topics.
